Black Katz Salute The 28th Maori Battalion
In 1988, following the 28th Maori Battalion Reunion, Tomoana Showgrounds, Hastings, Uncle Te Okanga ‘Aussie’ Huata whilst holding the position as Cultural Advisor to Māori Affairs passed away suddenly, on the paepae, following his Whaikōrero, at the Launch of CYFS – Pū Ao Te Ata Tū, at Tauarau Marae in Ruatoki. Following Uncle ‘Aussie’s” Tangi Nehu, Black Katz returned to Studio and produced, composed, arranged, recorded an Album of 6 waiata and a music video for Black Katz 3rd album of waiata called “Black Katz Salutes the 28th Maori Battalion” ‘Ko Wai Ka Hua’ Maumahara - Dedication to Uncle ‘Aussie’ and all the Papa, Matua, Koro o Rua Tekau Mā Waru - 28th Maori Battalion.
Dad translated Uncle ‘Aussies’ waiata ‘Ko Wai Ka Hua’ – “To Whom It May Concern” as a Maumahara – dedication to his beloved brother and all those of the 28th Maori Battalion who lost their lives in WW2 - Ngātai Huata
